The oil carries the scent that tells more of a pleasantly fresh, sweet and citrus aroma. Promoting a lightness of spirit and clarity of thought, grapefruit oil is considered to be ideal for the individuals looking for high returns from life as well as for those who feel let down, giving way to tension, frustration, irritability, and moodiness.

History of Grapefruit
Reportedly, grapefruit is a relatively recent addition to the large group of citrus fruits. Originating in Asia, the botanical name of Grapefruit is "Citrus paradisi". The large, pale yellow fruits are picked from this glossy-leaved tree, about 10 meters (30 feet) high, with white flowers. With moving times, these trees are now cultivated in many regions including USA, Brazil, and Israel.

The earliest mention of the "forbidden fruit" can be found on the lands of Barbados, somewhere around 1700. Over here, famous captain Shaddock had left some pomelo seeds on his way back from the Pacific to England. The fruit of the pomelo trees then apparently cross-pollinated with a local orange tree and this hybrid produced the first grapefruit.

By the end of the 18th century, grapefruit had spread to other Caribbean islands and Jamaica became the center of grapefruit

cultivation. During the latter half of the 19th century, commercial grapefruit production started in Florida, which has to this day remained the grapefruit center of the world. New varieties of this fruit were introduced to the market and grapefruit became the most valuable export crop of Florida. As a country, the United States is still the biggest producer of grapefruit.

Oil Extraction
Being another source of essential oil, grapefruit belongs to the Rutaceae family. The extraction of grapefruit oil takes place through cold-pressing of the fruit peels. The oil collected from deep embedded oil glands of fresh peels yields 0.5 - 1 %.
