An Introduction
Sowing is the process of planting seeds for later harvesting and production. For centuries, this vital process has been performed manually. But now, with the advent of science and technology, many scientific devices are used for sowing. These hydraulic machines have helped the farmers increase production, eased their labor, and improved the quality of farm life. Improper crop geometry in fields is a prime factor in reducing yields and these mechanized devices are capable of providing accurate results, therefore contributing immensely in obtaining maximum output.

Planters are the agricultural implements used for planting different seeds. For different types of crops,

different planters are available in the market. Farmers are requested to conduct a through research on soil conditions and nature of the seed, before actually sourcing it. For example, for sowing a sugarcane, we need a specific type of planter as compared to the planter required for planting vegetable seeds.

What are Planters?
Planters are harvesting machines used for planting seeds for the crop production. They come in variety of shapes and specifications, depending on the type of crop and soil. For some crops, other types of planting equipment may be used to plant tubers, such as potatoes, and transplants, such as tomatoes.

Since most planters are based on hydraulic power, they offer the advantage of being easily controlled and automated. The use of sophisticated technology enables the farmer to obtain better production in a very limited labour expenses.

Powered with mechanical devices, planters come with many user friendly and attractive features. Some of them are:

  • Row to row spacing facility
  • Plant to plant spacing facility
  • Fertilizer metering system
  • Seed dropping facility, etc.

Application Areas

Different types of planters are used for planting different seeds such as maize, peas, pea nuts, sunflower, soybean, grams, and cotton seeds, etc. in unprepared pre-harvested fields. They are also used in trans-plating vegetable nurseries where plant to plant distance is adjustable.

Following are the main advantages of using planters:

  • Increased Efficiency: By using a planter, a farmer can perform the task of more than 20 people. Since planter is based on mechanical devices, it is capable of doing job in an efficient and perfect manner. Thus, also facilitation the total agricultural yield .
  • Saves Time & Money: Since planter performs multiple tasks, it saves lot of labour expenses of a farmer.
  • Multiple Crop Plantation: Many modern planters enable the farmer to plant more than one crop with the same planter and without adjusting the spacing of row units
